The what, why and how of health and development

HIV as you’ve never seen it before

This construction of a HIV particle was formed after a team at Visual Science consulted 100 articles on HIV from science journals and then reconstructed the proteins from X-rays.

The impressive images, which remind me a little of Mandelbrot’s fractals, are a great way to visualise something so small yet impacts so much around the world.

An image of this visual just one first place in the 2010 International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge. Well done Ivan Konstantinov and his team!
