BBC Frontiers: could there soon be a universal cure for all viruses?

Just listened to an interesting a really interesting BBC Frontiers episode about finding a treatment for viruses like we have for bacteria.

Kevin Fogg talks to a number of scientists about the difficulties in tackling viruses that you don’t have with bacteria. For example, because they use our own molecules it is tricky to find a way of defeat the virus without damaging cells.

Most interesting is that recent developments in biology and genetics could means we’re closer to to finding one treatment for all viruses – from flu to HIV, dengue and ebola.
