The what, why and how of health and development

How do we hope to improve our health in the years to come? What are the key issues in UK and global healthcare and what’s being done about them? What can the latest research tell us? These are some of the questions Investigate is here to try and help answer.

Investigate : Health publishes news stories and opinion pieces on health, poverty and development, from changes in government policy to the latest scientific research. Topics covered include sexual health, access to medicines and health services, infectious diseases, NCDs, and mental health.

Articles are researched and written by award-winning freelance journalist Maddy French.

Maddy is a journalist who has written frequently about healthcare, with articles published in the Guardian, Al Jazeera, and the Independent. Currently based in Vienna, she is also the Editor of The Local Austria.

Her article on access to morphine in low income countries won first place in the Africa Palliative Care Association Journalism Awards and she has also been longlisted in the Guardian’s International Development Journalism Competition.

From September 2016, she’ll be back in the UK to study for a Masters in Public Health at the University of York. Contact her on or on twitter @mddyfrnch.
